Hot Hojicha Latte (Print Version)

Aromatic roasted green tea blended with creamy steamed milk and optional sweetness.

# What You'll Need:

→ Tea

01 - 2 teaspoons hojicha powder (roasted green tea)
02 - 1/2 cup hot water, approximately 175°F

→ Milk

03 - 1.5 cups milk (dairy or plant-based alternative)

→ Sweetener

04 - 1 to 2 teaspoons honey, maple syrup, or sugar (optional, to taste)

# How to Make It:

01 - Sift the hojicha powder in a small bowl to remove any lumps and ensure a smooth texture.
02 - Add the hot water to the hojicha powder and whisk thoroughly until fully dissolved and frothy using a bamboo whisk or standard whisk.
03 - Heat the milk in a saucepan over medium heat until steaming without boiling. Froth the milk using a milk frother or whisk until creamy and smooth.
04 - Pour the dissolved hojicha into two mugs and add sweetener to each if desired, stirring to incorporate.
05 - Gently pour the steamed milk over the tea base while holding back the foam with a spoon, then spoon the remaining foam on top.
06 - Serve immediately, optionally garnished with a light sprinkle of hojicha powder.

# Additional Tips::

01 -
  • It tastes like a hug from someone who actually cares about your wellbeing.
  • The whole thing takes ten minutes but feels like a small ritual you're treating yourself to.
  • Works perfectly with any milk you have on hand, dairy or otherwise.
02 -
  • The water temperature makes or breaks this drink, so if you keep getting a bitter taste, your water is probably too hot.
  • Sifting the powder isn't pretentious; it's the difference between a silky smooth drink and one that feels grainy, and you'll notice the difference immediately.
03 -
  • Invest in good hojicha powder from a tea supplier you trust; cheap powder tastes dusty and will ruin the whole experience.
  • If your hojicha tastes off or stale, it's probably been sitting in someone's pantry too long, so buy smaller quantities more frequently.
