Spiced Bacon Twists (Print Version)

Crispy bacon strips with cinnamon-sugar coating, baked until golden and caramelized.

# What You'll Need:

→ Bacon

01 - 12 slices thick-cut bacon

→ Spiced Sugar Mixture

02 - 1/3 cup light brown sugar, packed
03 - 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
04 - 1/8 teaspoon cayenne pepper

# How to Make It:

01 - Preheat oven to 350°F. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or foil and set a wire rack on top.
02 - In a shallow dish, mix together the brown sugar, cinnamon, and cayenne pepper until thoroughly combined.
03 - Dredge each bacon slice in the sugar mixture, pressing gently to coat both sides evenly.
04 - Twist each coated bacon slice several times to form a spiral shape. Place twists on the wire rack, spacing them apart to allow for even cooking.
05 - Sprinkle any leftover spiced sugar mixture evenly over the twists.
06 - Bake for 25-30 minutes until bacon is crisp and caramelized, rotating the tray halfway through cooking time for even browning.
07 - Let cool for 5 minutes to allow the caramelized coating to set before serving warm or at room temperature.

# Additional Tips::

01 -
  • The contrast between salty bacon and sweet spiced sugar is utterly addictive
  • They disappear from plates faster than you can say "seconds please"
02 -
  • The wire rack is nonnegotiable unless you want bacon sitting in its own rendered fat
  • These go from perfect to burnt quickly in the last few minutes, so set a timer
03 -
  • Work quickly when coating the bacon because the sugar starts melting from the warmth of your hands
  • If your twists unravel during baking, gently reshape them with tongs while they're still hot
